Biography for Anita Caveney
After joining the Brush & Palette Club in 2002, my formal instruction in art has continued through workshops taught by a variety of professional artists, lessons with well-known local artists Hilda Markson Gray and Jacquie Wojtowich, and painting sessions at Byron Memorial Library with other members of the club. Painting is a hobby rather than a vocation for me. Volunteer commitments on behalf of nature conservation often take priority over my artistic pursuits. I hope to find more time for painting in the near future, and experiment with new media.
Most of my work is done in watercolours, though oils hold a special corner in my heart. My subjects usually reflect my love of nature – landscapes, flora, and fauna. Bringing my detailed observations of nature to life with brush and paint is proving to be an enjoyable hobby. The technical challenge of getting textures to look realistic also appeals to me (looseness loses, again!). On the flip side, I have a whimsical bent that shows up in greetings cards and some of my larger pieces. I have an irresistible urge to play on words when choosing some titles for the latter!
