I paint to get what I want. What do I want? I want to slow down and take time to enjoy the local, the ordinary, the overlooked and I want to encourage my viewer to do the same. I want to create a place where wild things live forever and can always be visited.
I am a self- taught artist working in several media but my preference is watercolour. I love it because it has a mind of its own. After years of working with it, it continues to surprise and delight.
While most of my paintings are studio work they are the result of observations made on location and recorded in my sketchbook. I love to work outdoors and am rarely without a sketchbook wherever I go. These on location sketches are integral to my process. They inform and underpin everything I paint.
