Marilyn Kidd contact : mkidd@uwo.ca medium : watercolour “Art is the taking and giving of beauty” - Ansel Adams Since I was a very young child, I have always been interested in drawing and painting. I first became aware of my passion for watercolours after seeing an exhibition of watercolours of Venice by the great 19th Century English artist J.M.W. Turner. The incredible effects of luminosity this medium can achieve in depicting the beauty of water, sky and sunlight are outstanding and I am especially attracted to scenes of nature which include these elements. A second love is flowers and the tradition of botanical studies which allow the artist to discover an endless variety of colours and shapes that are fascinating to the eye. For me, a true work of art is something that you can gaze at for years and still feel intense pleasure. |
